The personal injury attorneys in Elmsford, NY, at Banville Law are offering to share an excerpt about the area.

Elmsford is a small village in Westchester County, New York. Roughly around 1.06 square miles, the area is fully contained within the borders of Greenburgh and is part of the New York Metropolitan area.

History

In its early history, Elmsford was largely farmland. It wasn’t until the construction of railroads in the late 19th century that the area was able to be incorporated as a village on May 14, 1910. Elmsford dates its incorporation officially from June 6, 1910, when a map and a description of the Village boundaries were filed by Greenburgh Supervisor Millard In the Office of the Secretary of State of the State of New York.

The area we know today as Elmsford was known in colonial times as "Storm's Bridge" and then "Hall's Corners,” which were both derived from the principal landowners in those days. In 1870, the developing village was officially renamed "Elmsford" to honor a local landmark, a large elm tree. The names Elmsford and Storm's Bridge are reminiscent of the Saw Mill River, which once had significant headwater flowing through the village.

The beginning of development for Elmsford occurred in the 1870s and surrounded the New York and Putnam Railroad station. Since commuter rail service ended in 1958 and freight service ended in 1975, the railroad is presently the North and South County Trailway. The Elmsford is on NY Route 9A just south of NY Route 119 and is currently occupied by the Casaletto Restaurant.

The average household size was 2.88, and the average family size was 3.39.
