On November 9th, a SUV flipped onto a Brooklyn sidewalk and landed on a 50-year-old man. The 53-year-old driver of the SUV is said to have lost control of his car while trying to prevent another car from passing him. He ran into a bus stop sign and a tree according to witnesses of the crash.
There were three other people in the car, including a three-year-old boy. All passengers were hospitalized for minor injuries. Part of the reason the SUV lost control was due to fallen foliage, causing the car to flip twice before it ended up on the sidewalk in front of a beauty supply shop.
Medical Technicians tried CPR on the man who suffered the unfortunate consequence of the car flipping on him, he was taken to Kings County Hospital but, sadly there was nothing else that could be done for him.
Bystanders freed the driver and the three-year-old child who was strapped into the back seat.
The crash is being investigated by the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad.
A 19-year-old woman was the fatal victim of drunk driving after being thrown out of a car that was being driven by a drunk driver.
The drunk driver smashed into an obstruction on a Brooklyn highway on Sunday morning. The 19-year-old, identified as Wiktoria Filc, from Staten Island, was in the passenger seat of Joseph Auteri's 2005 Acura. The car hit a guard rail while Auteri attempted to take the 65th St. exit ramp off the Belt Parkway in Bay Ridge.
When the Acura flipped it threw Filc out of the car. Emergency responders hurried Filc to Lutheran Medical Center but she could not be saved.
The driver, Auteri, was charged with vehicular manslaughter as well as driving while intoxicated, reckless endangerment, and vehicular assault. There were three other passengers who managed to escape with minor injuries.
In Western New York, a New York State trooper was injured after he was hit by a car on a highway.
New York State Police are aware that the accident took place at 10.15 p.m. Saturday on Grand Island in Erie County.
It is believed that the trooper was hit by a car heading in the southbound lanes of Interstate 190. The trooper, fortunately, did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
The crash is still being investigated by officials.
A 55-year-old woman was struck by a dump truck while trying to cross a street in the Bronx. The accident took place in the Hunts Point Section.
Police state that the victim, Floria Burton, was attempting to cross the street when a Mack dump truck hit her. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The truck driver stayed at the accident scene and did not get charged, police are however investigating the matter.
32-year-old Vincent Sugrue, died after a car he was in collided with another car. The car he was in was a VW Jetta that was loaded with 14 bags of crack cocaine, heading south on Hyland Boulevard.
The driver of the other car was an 88-year-old woman, attempting to make a left turn when she struck the drug-filled vehicle.
The driver of the VW Jetta was arrested on drug charges as well as for driving without a license.
