New York Accident Report Round Up- December 4, 2015

This week Banville Law reports on a number of hit-and-run accidents that were rampant in New York, one of those hit-and-run accidents left three NYPD officers injured in Washington Heights.

Springfield Boulevard, NY: Pedestrian Hurt Following Car Crash

On Tuesday December 1st, two pedestrians had broken legs due to their car crashing into a restaurant in Queens. The accident took place on Springfield Boulevard.

According to the police, the car made its way onto the curb and hit the two men before it crashed into the Crown Fried Chicken restaurant. The driver of the car is believed to have left the scene of the crime on foot.

The victims were transported to a hospital and were in stable condition.

West Babylon, NY: Babylon Mother Dies Crossing Southern State Parkway

A mother in West Babylon, who had just escaped out of her overturned car that had been hit by another vehicle, died as she went back to her car.

According to the police, the 25-year-old Brittany Leith had previously flipped her car on Sunday November 29th at 4 a.m. and was assisted by other motorists towards the shoulder of the roadway. Leith decided to go back to her flipped vehicle to obtain some of her items, but unfortunately, she suffered another blow. Leith was hit and killed by another passing motorist.

Police are investigating this accident which also saw a state police vehicle that was assisting on the scene, also hit from behind by a sports utility vehicle.  The officer was hospitalized but it is believed he will make a good recovery.

Inwood, NY: Long Island Nassau County Car Crash Kills Two People

According to police reports, two people died following a fiery Long Island crash on Saturday, November 28. The crash happened after the two people's BMW slammed into a garbage truck.

The BMW burst into flames after crashing into the sanitation truck from D Daniels Contracting, which was headed west on Bayview Avenue. The people in the BMW were found dead inside the car after it burst into flames.

The sanitation truck driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

New York, NY: Hit And Run Driver Injures Three NYPD Officers

Three NYPD officers were taken to hospital due to their car being slammed by a hit-and-run driver in Washington Heights on Saturday, November 28.

The three police officers were on duty in an unmarked car at the time that their vehicle was struck near W. 184th St. and Wadsworth Avenue. The driver who was responsible for hitting them fled the scene.

Poughkeepsie, NY: Man Killed After Being Hit By A Car In Hudson Valley

The death of a 48-year-old hit by a car on November 28, in Hudson Valley, is currently being investigated by authorities. The crash took place in Poughkeepsie.

The man who was struck was called Randall Housey, he was taken to a hospital where he died later on. The driver of the car was a 76-year-old woman who left the scene unaware that she had struck someone. The driver was found and is assisting in the investigation.

Brooklyn, NY: One Person Dies In Hit And Run Crash In New York City

A hit-and-run driver hit a pedestrian and injured several other people on a lively New York City street on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26.

The driver hit a woman crossing a busy intersection in Brooklyn. The woman was quickly taken to a nearby hospital where she was unfortunately pronounced dead.

The driver of the hit-and-run car did not stop after hitting this woman, instead, she further accelerated down the street and crashed into parked cars. The driver further injured several more pedestrians. The driver ran away from the scene on foot but was later detained by the police.

Police are investigating whether or not drugs and alcohol were involved in this woman's actions.

Brooklyn, NY: Express MTA Bus Kills 41 Year Old Woman

A 41-year-old woman was hit by an MTA express bus in Brooklyn, on November 25. The woman who was identified as Rukshsana Khan, a mother of six, was hit as she was crossing mid-block on Ocean Avenue between Avenue J and K in Midwood.

Khan was struck by the bus' left bumper that quickly knocked her down. Those within the vicinity rushed to assist Khan but unfortunately, she had already passed away. She was later pronounced dead at New York Community Hospital.

The bus driver of the BM1 bus remained on the scene. Police did not suspect any foul play but are investigating this incident.
