Founded in the Spring of 1970, Pelham Art Center was initially created as a music festival called "The Pelham Art Happening." It was established by the Pelham Junior League of women who had a goal to provide residents with local artist entertainment from art exhibitions, musical performances, and workshops.
The name was formally changed to Pelham Art Center in 1985, and the center moved to its present site, a former gas station converted into a 5,000 square foot space with a gallery, two workshop spaces, and a dark room that is now the media laboratory.
The Pelham Art Center aims to provide six to seven exhibitions filled with artwork from local and international artists. There is an assortment of pieces of art on display in the gallery ranging from:
The gallery is open to the public free of charge and offers scheduled guided tours and meet and greets with artists and curators.
The art center hosts tons of special events varying from exclusive art shows in the gallery, virtual celebrations, workshops, artist lectures, informational talks, and lively fundraisers that bring together amazing food, artistic talent, fantastic music, and great company.
