Located inside ArtsWestchester, this gem of a display offers visitors a glimpse of African Masterworks of art. The rich, diversity of the collection embodies the essence of mankind and a reflection of beauty and creation.
Dafco Gallery of African Art was founded in 1996 by Joe Cobbinah, who remains the President/CEO of the gallery. Born in Ghana, he was taught at a very young age, the importance and significance of African traditions, sculptures, masks, and other household objects.
In the early 1970s, Cobbinah left Ghana to further his education in the United States. Between his time in school and going back home to Ghana to visit family, he'd often bring pieces of African art and give them as gifts to fellow students, professors, friends etc.
After some time, and frequent requests to purchase more when he would travel back to Ghana, he soon realized how much others appreciated African art, and decide to make it a business.
After 12 years in the same workshop, selling a variety of African antiquities, sculptures, artwork, and more, he was able to secure a new location in ArtsWestchester in downtown White Plains. Since then, he has continued to educate visitors and provide luxurious and unique pieces of fine African art.
Dafco's Gallery is offered to both in-person buyers and online shoppers. If you're unable to go to the gallery, check out their website online for a full view of every piece in their current collection. Online you can find everyone from African figures, statues, headdresses, home furnishings, masks, shields, and much more.
