If you’ve been involved in a car accident you may be on the hunt for a reputable auto body shop. This article, provided by the Purchase personal injury lawyers at Banville Law, will go over the invention of the modern car, the very first car accident, and auto body shops in the local area.

Benz: Builder Of The First Modern Car

Purchase, NY road near personal injury law firm.Karl Benz worked for several years to design his “Motorwagen” which was a three-wheeled model. In 1879, he received a patent for the first two-stroke gasoline-powered engine. A few years later, in 1885, he built his first model of the vehicle he named the “Motorwagen”. In 1886, he received a patent for the Motorwagen and began to build additional vehicles for sale. He then designed a four-wheel version.

By the 1890s Benz had sold about 25 of his Motorwagens. While he continued his work, others in France and Germany created their own gasoline-powered vehicles. In American, the Duryea brothers designed and built the Duryea Motorwagon.

It wouldn’t take long for many households to own their own personal car. Or for the first car accident to occur.

America: Home Of The First Car Accident

It was James William Lambert who was the driver during the first ever recorded car accident. The crash took place in Ohio City, Ohio. Lambert and his friend were going for a drive when he lost control of the wheel after a tire hit a tree root. Luckily for the two passengers, no serious injuries were sustained. The car, however, was not so lucky.

Increased demand from buyers coupled with the need for replacement parts resulted in the mass production of car parts. Ultimately, this allowed mechanics to purchase those parts from the manufacturers and do repairs in their own shops.

Choosing An Auto Mechanic

It can be difficult to pick a mechanic. It’s important to always ask for recommendations from friends and family. Your insurance company may even have a list of approved auto body shops. When speaking with an auto mechanic about a possible repair, consider asking the following questions:

  • Do you have any special certifications that pertain to the make and model of my car?
  • Will you provide me with a complete written estimate?
  • Will I be notified if repairs that are not on the estimate need to be made?
  • Will you work with my insurance company directly?

Always check online reviews for feedback from previous customers.
