Percy Grainger House

This article is brought to you by the experienced personal injury attorneys in White Plains, NY.

History

The historic house was built in 1893 by the original owner, David Cromwell, a banker and well-known local citizen. Cromwell was Chief Officer and Treasurer of Westchester County, as well as the President of several local banks.

He dedicated the majority of his life serving the county and is most recognized for building two streets in White Plains, Maple Avenue, and East Post Road, which are parallel to where the Percy Grainger Home dwells.

Owner, Percy Grainger, was born in Australia in 1882 and was a renowned pianist, composer, writer, watercolorist, collector of folk music, and clothing designer. The multi-talented pioneer occupied the home till his death in 1961.

Although some of the household items of the Cromwell's are kept on the third floor, the Grainger House remains furnished as it was during the lifetime of Grainger, a remarkable living tribute to the life and times of a vastly complex genius.

It is one of Westchester County's artistic gems and a place visited by a constant flow of artists, historians, and students from around the globe.

Visit

The home consists of two main stories, and the ground floor is where guests begin the tour; there, you'll find the living room that showcases a parlor organ belonging to Grainger.

Museumgoers will also be able to explore other rooms, including the kitchen, dining room, music room porch, and foyer.

Head upstairs to find the bedrooms, bathroom, hallways that all contain momentums such as paintings, portraits, and other artifacts.

Visitors are welcome all year-round and are provided with scheduled tours of the historic home. With the house being so close to downtown White Plains, we encourage visitors to make their way down Mamaroneck Avenue to check out the numerous shops and restaurants located nearby.
