The Museum of the City of New York

Our experienced personal injury attorney in Manhattan Valley, NY, has sponsored this article for others to discover this monumental Museum.

History

The Museum was founded in 1923 by Henry Collins Brown, a Scottish-born writer in New York. In 1926, Hardinge Scholle replaced Henry Brown as Major of New York and took over the process of housing the Museum at a new location.

Over the next few decades, the Museum gathered a vast amount of historical artifacts such as handwritten manuscripts from Eugene O’Neill, Duncan Phyfe furniture, George Washington’s Inaugural Ball suit, the Carrie Walter Stettheimer dollhouse, and 412 glass negatives taken by Jacob Riis.

Currently, the Museum has expanded its collection to over 750,000 pieces of history, including sculptures, paintings, decorative arts, photographs, prints, toys, costumes, and theatrical memorabilia.
