On Saturday, January 9th, 2016, a 50 year-old-man was killed after his SUV crashed into a tree. Suffolk County police say the man was actually running away from another accident he was involved in on Long Island.
The man was identified as Anthony Lapicola of Shoreham. Lapicola was pronounced dead at a local hospital on Sunday. According to the police, Lapicola had backed out of a driveway in Brentwood where he hit a car and carried on driving. He ended up hitting a tree a short distance away from the scene of his first accident.
The driver from the first accident was not injured.
An accident that took place on Friday, January 8, 2016, left a 52-year-old-man dead after he was hit by a car in the Bronx. In an unfortunate end, the man was further hit by two more cars while he was lying in the roadway.
The police reported that the man was crossing East 170th Street when he was hit and landed on the pavement. The car that hit him did not stop at the scene of the accident.
A second car hit the man and police also say the second driver kept on driving. A third car hit the man, and this time the driver stayed at the scene of the accident.
The man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police are still investigating this accident.
A couple in their 70s were killed on a rural highway in northern New York following a head-on collision. The accident happened as a result of another car attempting to pass a vehicle.
The accident happened on Friday, January 8, 2016, in Altona, which is a town at the northeast corner of New York State.
According to state police, the person who hit them was 29-year-old Jesse Baker from Morrisonville. Baker was attempting to pass another car on State Route 190 when he crashed into the Subaru driven by 74-year-old Aubrey Lohse. Aubrey's husband, 77-year-old Richard Lohse, was in the front passenger seat. The couple was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Baker was transported to a hospital, however, his condition was not disclosed. An investigation into this accident is still ongoing.
A 29-year-old man was killed on the FDR in Manhattan. The accident took place on Friday, January 8, 2016. The man was reportedly walking on the highway, but it is unclear as to why he was doing so.
Police state that a gray sedan left the scene and was last seen going north on West 145th Street and Harlem River Drive.
The victim was taken to a hospital when he was already in cardiac arrest. He later died from his injuries.
On January 14, 2016, a driver in Yonkers, NY was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and unclassified misdemeanor.
State police were informed of a wrong-way report where a Mitsubishi Montero was going northbound in the southbound lanes on I-87 close to the Yonkers Toll Barrier.
The vehicle was swiftly pulled over by troopers and a Help Truck before a serious accident was caused. The woman who was driving the car was Clara Rodriguez from Peekskill, NY. She was intoxicated and her blood alcohol content was 0.17%.
A man from Irish Ridge Road, Durhamville, NY was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated DWI with a blood alcohol content of .18% or more and refusal to take a breath screen among other charges.
State police were sent to investigate a 1 vehicle crash on State Route 5 close to High Bridge Road in Vernon. Police realized that a 2015 GMC Denali had veered off the roadway and hit a guide-rail on the north side of the road.
Witnesses of this accident said that the men in the car fled the scene, but the state troopers were able to locate them and charge the driver of the car who was identified as Joshua M. Kinney.
