It all started in 1973 after the Town of Greenburgh secured funds from a federal grant to acquire a piece of property to protect wildlife. In 1975, the name officially changed to the Greenburgh Nature Center and was dedicated as a refuge for wildlife, an educational program for youth and adults to learn more about their environment and what they can do to preserve the natural habitat.
Today, the Nature Center offers 33-acres of natural preserves with tons of trails to explore, small ponds, a meadow of native plants, an organic garden, and a Native American replicated village.
In the historic manor house, guests can find exhibitions that span two full floors top to bottom with educational information. The main exhibit showcases A Forest Life, a display that includes live animals and a greenhouse that features a hydroponic growing system for guests to observe.
Another exhibit shows guests a variety of live animals worldwide, along with volunteers and knowledgeable tour guides that can share insightful and educational information on different animals and species.
The outdoor sites offer visitors tons of things to explore in its peaceful and scenic setting full of forest trails, gorgeous plants, smaller exhibits, and attractions. Here are a few experiences you'll have a chance to see:
After spending the day exploring the Nature Center, head on over to one of our favorite fine dining restaurants, from our next blog.
