Queens Botanical Garden is an environmental sanctuary where individuals, plants, and traditions are honored by the creative parks, groundbreaking educational projects, and real-world environmental preservation programs.
Queens Botanical Garden is located on the northeast side of Flushing Meadow-Corona Park. The garden originally started as a 5-acre park that features "Gardens on Parade," an exhibit showcased at the 1939 New York World's Faire. In 1946, the garden officially opened under the name "The Queens Botanical Garden Society" and remained at the World's Faire site until 1961.
In 1961, it was then moved to its current home on Main Street in Flushing, where it expanded to a beautiful 29-acre oasis filled with flower bends, iconic trees, and sculptures throughout the space.
The current garden features original plantings taken from the 1939 site, two blue atlas cedars that can be found at the entrance. As you enter, you'll be given a map that gives you a clear guide on where you can find all the gardens and what they feature.
The Annual Garden is filled with specially selected flowers and roses that bloom all throughout spring and fall, along with a variety of benches perfectly positioned to offer gorgeous views of the flower beds.
The Arboretum holds a variety of lush green trees like the Fragrant Winterhazel, Weeping Honeylocust, the Southern Magnolia, and so much more.
The Bee Garden gives visitors a collection of trees and plants that attract bees for pollination. You can also see a beehive house onsite that belongs to Italian Honeybees.
As you can see, there is so much to discover in the garden! Choose a beautiful sunny day and head over to enjoy the natural ambiance and fresh smelling flowers circulating around you.
