Positioned by the North Shore of Long Island in Nassau County, New York, is a small community named Plainview. Dating back to 1648, when a colonist from Wales named Robert Williams bought the land. It was previously named Mannatto Hill, translating a "hole of dirt and water" by the Native Americans. The farmland would receive the name Plainview in 1885 based on the Hempstead Plains being viewed from the top of the hills.
Similar to the neighboring areas, Plainview became prosperous farmland, and their main crop was cucumbers. They were the primary supplier of pickles to the adjacent Heinz factories. They also grew potatoes, but plant diseases in the early 1900s wiped out both crops.
