History

Positioned by the North Shore of Long Island in Nassau County, New York, is a small community named Plainview. Dating back to 1648, when a colonist from Wales named Robert Williams bought the land. It was previously named Mannatto Hill, translating a "hole of dirt and water" by the Native Americans. The farmland would receive the name Plainview in 1885 based on the Hempstead Plains being viewed from the top of the hills.

Similar to the neighboring areas, Plainview became prosperous farmland, and their main crop was cucumbers. They were the primary supplier of pickles to the adjacent Heinz factories. They also grew potatoes, but plant diseases in the early 1900s wiped out both crops.

Development

In the 1950s, the population increased beyond 35,000. The land remaining from development became gated communities, unlike the apartment buildings of its many neighbors. According to the 2019 census, the population is 26,453.

In addition to The Seasons at Plainview, which targets 55+ residents and homebuyers for the first time, there is The Hamlet on Olde Oyster Bay, which includes single-family homes and condos. Out of the 3648 acres, only 330 acres are commercialized property, including shopping plazas and strip malls, such as the Manetto Hills Shopping Center. Veeco and Aeroflex are the most well-known of the tenants.
