Park History

The Bronx Zoo is one of the world's most famous zoos. In 1898, the City of New York gave the New York Zoological Society 250 acres of Bronx Park to create a park aimed at protecting wild animals and encouraging zoology. Established in 1899, the Bronx Zoo remains one of the United States' major wildlife conservation parks, holding 4,000 animals containing more than 650 species.

Due to the historical landscape of the Zoo, visitors can find tons of official city landmarks spread all over the park, from the Rainy Gate entrance to the Astor Court in the middle of the Zoo.

Exhibits

There are so many fun exhibits to explore while visiting the Zoo, but some our most monumental ones include:

• Congo Gorilla Forest - Gorillas are one of the closest species to humans and this interactive exhibit allows you to discover all the traits they share.
• African Plains - Lions are one of the most social animals in their species, spend some time observing the curiosity of a big cat through their glass exhibit.
• Baboon Reserve - Learn about the several types of gestures that have a certain meaning to us, but are the complete opposite of gelada baboons.
• Tiger Mountain - Tigers communicate very differently than their cousins, and can make a variety of unexpected motions and roars that share quite a sight. Visit the exhibit to learn more interesting facts about them from a guided speaker.

There are endless amounts of exhibitions to explore, attractions to discover, and places to dine, so prepare to spend the whole day at the zoo and creating memories that'll last a lifetime.
