The County Center has been the primary setting for thousands of festivals, trade shows, sporting activities, workshops, conferences, performance arts, exhibitions, and cultural and charitable events in Westchester for almost 80 years. The Center was established in 1924 for the purpose of building a community center and recreational facility to host a variety of programs and events to help finance the maintenance of the center.
The grand opening gala of the Westchester County Center was held on May 22, 1930, drawing thousands from all over Westchester to listen to renowned performers such as pianist Percy Grainger, tenor Edward Johnson of the Metropolitan Opera Company, organist Palmer Christian and over 1,500 performers from the local choral community.
Over the decades, it's been completely renovated and has continued to maintain and preserve the history and meaning behind the Center, to provide years of service to the community using state-of-the-art modern technology.
More than 200 accomplished pro and amateur athletes have been honored by the Westchester Sports Hall of Fame for their significant contributions made to the community since 1968. Individuals are nominated annually to be a part of the Hall of Fame, and the winner receives a trophy with their name inscribed as well as a plaque on display in the Center's gallery.
