Dunwoodie, New York, is home to the St. Joseph's Seminary and College, a major seminary of the Archdiocese of New York. The seminary is so closely tied to the area that it is often referred to as Dunwoodie.

The Archdiocese of New York operated seminaries at Fordham, once affiliated with what is now Fordham University. The seminary was staffed originally by Sulpician and Diocesan priests and, later, Jesuit priests. In 1896, under Archbishop Michael Corrigan, the seminary was transferred to Yonkers under the charge of the Sulpicians, a society of apostolic life of Pontifical Right.

The Seminary hosted Pope John Paul II in 1995 and Pope Benedict XVI on April 19, 2008. They each led an afternoon prayer service and visited with the seminarians.

The seminary's mission is to educate men studying for priesthood in the Catholic Church and still operates today.
