The small but condensed neighborhood spans 1.202 square miles and is home to 61,321 residents with a population density of 51,000 per square mile. History

Williamsbridge is a longstanding community with a history dating back to the 1800s. The neighborhood was named after former resident and farmer John Williams, who built the first bridge over the Bronx River. As the town continued to progress through the latter 1800s, it experienced a massive population influx, and on November 23, 1888, the neighborhood was incorporated as a village. In the years following the town's incorporation, the New York City Department of Planning set out to shift the area's zoning map to preserve the community's character while still allowing for development to keep up with neighboring towns. Once the plan was put in motion, Williamsbridge became the site of several residential buildings and apartment complexes. With great access to housing, Williamsbridge attracted many families, and subsequently, numerous schools opened in the area. Today, the family-oriented neighborhood is considered a desirable place to live in the Bronx.

Demographics

Williamsbridge has grown to become a thriving community home to a diverse population. The neighborhood is largely African American (64%) with a significant amount of Hispanics (28%), Asians (3%), and people who identify as two or more races (1%), and others (1%). There is a slight majority of female residents (55%) in Williamsbridge and a minority of male residents (45%) with a median age of 37 years. Williamsbridge residents are hardworking, with 80.6% employed in white-collar jobs and 19.4% employed in blue-collar jobs. Residents of Williamsbridge live a relatively financially comfortable lifestyle with a median household income of $52,386. Furthermore, Williamsbridge is considered a family-oriented area since 66.85% of households consist of families, and 36.17% consist of families with children.
