Morris Heights is a longstanding community in the Bronx. The area was formerly the site of the Gas Engine & Power Company & Charles L. Seabury Company which occupied the modern-day site of Roberto Clemente State Park until 1958. The company contributed to the neighborhood's industrial period, employing hundreds of community members in Morris Heights. In the years following the company's closure, Morris Heights, along with several other neighboring communities, suffered from arson in the 1970s. Many buildings were destroyed, leaving a vulnerable population.
