Modern-day East Bronx's history began around 1639 when European settlers moved to the area. East Bronx was originally considered part of West Chester County and was only referred to as the Bronx until 1874 when the region was separated into West Bronx and East Bronx. The West Bronx ceded to New York County, while East Bronx remained part of Westchester County until 1895. However, by 1914, the entire brought was referred to as Bronx County, which remains true today. Throughout the 20th century, the East Bronx progressed, experiencing changes in four stages. In the early 1900s, the area experienced a boom in population and development until the borough's population reached 1.3 million in 1930. The Great Depression heavily impacted the area's population resulting in population and economic decline. By the mid-1900s, the entire borough shifted and became a predominately low-income area. This era was challenging for community members because the region experienced a surge of crime and poverty in several neighborhoods. However, the East Bronx welcomed development resurgence in the 1980s, allowing the area to progress. Today, the region continues to develop and is considered a thriving community.

The East Bronx is a longstanding community that has been home to millions of people from different ethnic cultures and backgrounds throughout the years. The region has historically consisted of many Italian Americans as well as Afro-Carribeans,  Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, and Asian Americans. As diverse as the East Bronx is, it is also considered highly segregated. Most Italian Americans in the East Bronx live in City Island, Morris Park, Pelham Gardens, Pelham Bay, and Throggs Neck. In contrast, the majority of Afro-Carribeans live in either Wakefield, Baychester, or Edenwald. Furthermore, most Hispanic Americans, including Puerto Ricans and Dominicans, live in neighborhoods on the southern end of the East Bronx, while most Asian Americans are condensed in the Parkchester neighborhood.

The East Bronx is a great area for those looking to experience the arts, culture, and stunning parks. The urban neighborhood is the ideal destination for those looking to experience an authentic New York City experience. Some of the most noteworthy attractions in the East Bronx include,
