This post, which will provide a brief description of the history of the gasoline engine and the car, has been shared by the Allerton personal injury attorneys at Banville Law.
The first engines were invented by men who wished to find a way to pump water from mines. These engines were steam-powered and the initial design, which had flaws that caused explosions, was improved upon over the next several centuries. Eventually, instead of steam, a gasoline-powered engine was built.
In 1886, Karl Benz obtained a patent for a three-wheeled vehicle that was powered by a gasoline engine. He sold many of this model and went on to invent a four-wheeled version as well.
In America, many inventors worked to build their own version of the modern car. One of those men was James William Lambert. Not only did he build a personal vehicle - he was also the first person to crash his car.
Lambert’s first car was three-wheeled, with one wheel in the front and two in the back. Not realizing that his vehicle was unsteady, Lambert went for a drive. He hit a tree root and the car spun out of control. It came to rest when it hit a hitching post.
Lambert and his passenger were unharmed but the car was unharmed.
Since that time, car companies have begun to mass produce cars and car parts, making it easy for mechanics to open their own repair shops. Today, car owners have many opens when they have been involved in an accident.
